Help

Welcome to MIXMAP. This interactive platform calculates similarity between regions based on a range of socio-economic, demographic, and geographic variables. Start by clicking on a region to select it. The platform will then rank all other regions based on similarity to the selected region. You then have a few options:

Adjust Mixer Weights
Open the Mixer panel and adjust the importance (weighting) of each of the socio-economic and demographic dimensions through the sliders. The ranking of similar regions and cartographic styling will update in real-time.

Upload a Preset File
Rather than adjust the sliders manual, you may upload an XML file with predefined weights, locations, and query parameters. See an example XML file here: Example.XML. Upload a preset XML file by clicking on the settings icon in the lower right of the platform. Additionally, you can manually change the weights and export them as a new preset file to share with others.

Restrict regions of interest
In some cases, you may be interested in comparing your selection to only a subset of all possible regions. Click the Draw Polygon tool in the upper right corner of the app to draw a polygon around the regions of interest. All similarity comparisons will now be restricted to this subset.

Change Map Type
The default Map Type is a choropleth map with a change in color representing a change in similarity. In the Map Type pane;, you can chose to view similarity based on a set number of the Most and Least similar regions.
